Most registered designs have a validity period of 5 years and may be renewed for a further 5 years but not exceeding 25 years in total.  In PRC, however, the registered design is initially registered for 1 year which is renewed annually and for a period  of not more than 10 years in total.  In USA, a registered design has a validity period of 14 years and is not renewable at the expiry of the validity period.
